Today marks the beginning of International Week of the Deaf, taking place from September 21–27, 2026, with International Day of Sign Languages celebrated on September 23.
This week is an opportunity to celebrate Deaf communities, recognize the richness and importance of sign languages, and raise awareness of the rights, experiences, and contributions of Deaf people around the world.
Sign languages are full, natural languages that are an essential part of Deaf communities and cultures. International Day of Sign Languages highlights the importance of protecting and promoting sign languages and ensuring equal access to communication, education, services, and opportunities.
